Lindelof could join Fiorentina as free agent with De Gea’s help

Fiorentina are reportedly considering a move for former Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof. With the help of his old team-mate David De Gea.

The centre-back turns 31 next week and is a free agent after his contract at Old Trafford expired.

It is understood that De Gea is “acting as a middleman” to get Lindelof to sign for Fiorentina.

The 30-year-old, who moved to the Premier League from Benfica in 2017, is open to moving to Serie A. But he will need to take a pay cut.

De Gea is currently the highest paid player at Fiorentina, taking home around €73k per week. Lindelof, meanwhile, was on a €139k per week contract at United. He is likely to be offered a similar contract to the former United number one to ensure he fits into the Italian outfit’s budget.

The Sweden international will bring valuable experience to the backline. Especially after Matias Moreno moved to Levante and Nicolau Valentini joined Verona on loan.
